Vigo is the most populous city in Galicia, and its nightlife has that port-city edge: direct, varied and full of character. Between Casco Vello, which tumbles down towards the harbour with the estuary as a backdrop, and neighbourhoods with their own identity such as Bouzas, there's something for almost every kind of night.
What nights out are like in Vigo
Vigo is a city of steep streets, and its nightlife moves vertically too: from the centre down to Casco Vello and from there towards the sea. A common plan is to start with tapas in Casco Vello or Bouzas, then head to Churruca if you're into less mainstream music, or to O Areal if you want drinks in a slightly more dressed-up setting. As a big city, Vigo has plenty on offer, so it helps to know what you're after before you go out.
In summer, part of the action moves towards the coast and the terraces near beaches such as Samil. Vigo's calendar also has its own highlights: La Reconquista, which every year commemorates the expulsion of French troops in 1809 with a lively atmosphere in Casco Vello, and a Christmas season famous for its lights, when the streets fill with people.
